Meal Plans

This page is dedicated to all the parents out there asking themselves “what’s for dinner?”

Coming up with meal ideas week after week can be an onerous task. Sometimes you feel like you just cooking the same old thing. Below are some meal plans we’ve used when travelling off-grid, around Australia in 2022.

I hope this can inspire you, and make the weekly task much simpler!

“What’s the Plan, Stan?”

– A play on words in the lyrics of
Paul Simon’s 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover – “Make a New Plan, Stan!”

Giralia Station (WA) Meal Plan

When writing our meal plans the availability of fresh food is a big consideration. Being in a remote location such as Exmouth, with the IGA as the main grocery store, our meal choices came down to price and what we could get our hands on, and what fresh food looked like it would last.

North Lefroy, Ningaloo Station (WA), Meal Plan

17 days completely off-grid

Sunsets in the west are the best!

Like the Giralia Meal Plan, Exmouth was our only option for groceries for North Lefroy. For this reason you will see a double up of some recipes.

  • Beef Koftas, Vegetables & Rice
  • Beef & Red Wine Casserole – Slow Cooker
  • Chicken Stir Fry
  • Chicken Drumstick & Vegetable Pot with Rice
  • Chicken & Vegetable Dhal
  • Conan the Barbarians Chicken Fried Rice (Hubby’s)
  • Curry Sausages – Slow Cooker
  • Garlic Chicken & Mash
  • Mince Chow Mein
  • Steak & Vegetable Mash
  • Thai Laksa
  • *Fresh Painted Crayfish in Garlic Butter Sauce
  • *Freshly Caught Fish Tacos / Wraps
  • *Fresh squid in chilli sauce with Rice

We made a double quantity of some meals, so we had leftovers to cover the extra nights. This reduced the water required for dishes as we only had to reheat.

*Meals we’re dependent upon hubby “bringing home the bacon”, which he did.
