About

What does RAMBAM FAM mean?

You’ll certainly hear us coming before you see us in our souped-up Dodge RAM.

To take on Australia towing a 22ft off-road van, we needed a BIG truck – one that is capable, extremely comfortable, and sexy to boot! The RAM is a beast! It’s the means by which we’re fulfiling our dream to travel full-time.

Our first born burns bright with her feisty disposition, and when she arrived – BAM – our lives changed drastically for the better!

Our boy is most certainly the reincarnation of Bamm Bamm Rubble from The Flinestones. He resembles Bamm Bamm (in his famous form as a toddler), he’s strong, loud, boisterous and a typical boy – rough and ready! With his cheeky smile and infectious personality, he exudes positivity and happiness.

‘BAM’ epitomises our family as we never do things in halves! We’re a determined bunch, charged-up go-getters always on a mission, full of energy.

Then there’s us… two Aries parents who either clash – BAM – or work together as an unstoppable force – did someone say intense?!?

And thus, Rambam Fam, was born.

The Logo Design, by Kimmie King

True to form, we’ve had extensive debate regarding the graphic that best represents our family. It must embody where we are headed – not only in the physical sense of states/territories – but in how we see our relationships with each other, ourselves, our kids, and the way we live our life. “Enter stage left… the turtle!”

Present in many tales, legends, cultures, and movies, often represented as the old, wise man that takes his time and moves steadily through life. We’re always rushing, we’re intense, we’re hard on ourselves and strive to be more, more, more! We hurry, often jumping so quickly we bite off more than we can chew and do way too much. And for what?! We’re focused so far into the future, our “to-do” list has no end and simply grows. We’re downright exhausted from the way we chose to live, and we only have ourselves to blame.

We see our future selves as fluid, out of the rat-race, free, living a non-traditional life, with far less possessions and more experiences. Like the turtle, we hope to be not just older, but wiser, on a steady path where the current takes us, with less of a stronghold on life.

Worries seem to have no room for the turtle, as it paces slowly on its journey and seemingly enjoys every moment as its last – this is the journey we are looking to take. Life is packed with ups and downs, roadblocks, challenges, grief, and loss – it’s not all unicorns and rainbows – but, if we smile, breathe, and go slow, all worries will surely pass.

Our turtle denotes the breaking free from traditional life. After all ’tis from great darkness comes great light’ – in this case, bursting with colour and vigour.

Akin to adult sea turtles, who beat the odds with only one in 1000 hatchlings surviving adulthood, we hope to align ourselves with the path of the turtle, encased in endless patience, for not only each other and our kids, but for those around us.

We intend to fashion an armour clad in wisdom, lined with effortless endurance to face each day with honour, and a of course a shiny adornment (with just the right amount of sparkle and pizzazz), for a pinch of luck.

The Colour of Magic (Discworld #1), by Terry Pratchett

Synopsis:

“In the beginning there was… a turtle.

Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place which might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different.

Particularly as it’s carried through space on the back of a giant turtle. It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

Unfortunately, the person charged with maintaining that survival in the face of robbers, mercenaries and, well, Death, is a spectacularly inept wizard…”

Our logo design is a firm nod to Discworld, the fictional setting for all of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld fantasy novels. Discworld consists of a slightly convex disc (complete with edge-of-the-world drop-off and consequent waterfall) resting on the backs of four huge elephants which are in turn standing on the back of an enormous turtle, named Great A’Tuin, as it slowly swims through space.

The Discworld is a fantasy land in the Tolkien and Brothers Grimm mould, complete with witches, wizards, dragons, trolls, and dwarfs; however, over time it has largely evolved into its own distinct culture, as its denizens find more sophisticated ways to outgrow their narrative conventions. The Disc is heavily influenced by magic and, while having similarities to (and in some cases, based on) planet Earth, it (generally) conforms to its own laws of physics.

Like Pratchett, we too are creating our own world, influenced by magic and governed by our own rules!

Balance

Balance is so important, and sometimes very tricky to achieve. As a family we are yearning for a more balanced life – a life we love that we don’t need to take a holiday from.

Sometimes you just need to add a big splash of colour to your life!
